Exercise is one of the most important lifestyle changes

When it comes to lifestyle changes to improve overall health we often focus on diet, however, exercise is one of the most important ways to stimulate and improve energy production at the cellular level.

As we age, the energy production in our cells reduces, and this is thought to be a part of aging process. To stimulate this energy production we need to move our body every day! Research shows that the longest living people on earth are getting regular movement and exercise throughout the day. We now know the sedentary lifestyle is equated with smoking cigarettes. New research shows as single session of exercise impacts over 9,000 molecules in the body. Some of these molecules regulate the body’s metabolism, blood sugar control, inflammation, tissue repair, appetite and more.

The best way to include exercise into your daily life is to focus on doing what you love to do. Walking in nature, hiking, biking, dancing, swimming, gardening, and yoga are some of the ways we can get exercise through activities we enjoy. If you can exercise with a friend then you are getting the added health protective benefit of socializing. If you are short on time you can go for a 10-15 minute run or speed walk. If you prefer a structured exercise program then try the Team Beachbody platform for on-demand streaming work out videos that can be completed at home.

Sweat is one of our most important detox pathways. We greatly limit sweating by controlling temperature with AC, and limiting movement and exercise. To increase our body’s daily detoxification include exercise that induces a sweat every day. If your BMI is under 19 then limiting exercise to daily walking may be best, while using saunas to sweat. Remember that the optimal BMI for overall health is 19-25.Please message me to learn more about optimal health and longevity.
